A Critical Step Forward! WELIGHT’s Huaguang-1 Full-Flow Engine Preburner Completes Its First High-Pressure Pressure-Fed Ignition Test at 100% Operating Condition

Recently, the preburner of WELIGHT's Huaguang-1 full-flow staged-combustion cycle LOX/methane engine successfully completed its first high-pressure pressure-fed ignition test at 100% operating condition. The test was successfully conducted, with reliable ignition and stable combustion. All performance parameters closely matched the design values, laying a solid technical foundation for full-engine integration and hot-fire testing.

The full-flow staged-combustion cycle represents one of the highest-performance propulsion cycle architectures currently used in liquid rocket engines, while the preburner is a critical thermodynamic component for realizing this cycle architecture. Its ignition reliability and combustion stability directly determine the operating stability of the propellant turbopumps, making it one of the core technical challenges that must be overcome in the development of a full-flow staged-combustion engine.

Previously, Huaguang-1 successfully completed the plasma torch igniter ignition test, as well as cold-flow tests of the fuel-rich and oxygen-rich preburner injectors. Both tests achieved the expected results and helped overcome key ignition challenges. Through this high-pressure pressure-fed ignition test of the preburner at 100% operating condition, the R&D team verified critical ignition and combustion processes, the status of the test system, and relevant operating parameters, making full preparations for subsequent ignition tests under target operating conditions.

According to the follow-up plan, the Huaguang-1 preburner will undergo further high-pressure pressure-fed ignition tests under target operating conditions to evaluate key indicators including ignition reliability, combustion stability, combustion efficiency, and structural integrity. The formal qualification testing will place greater emphasis on the preburner's ability to operate continuously and stably, as well as whether all key parameters meet design requirements. The results will also provide important data support for subsequent full-engine system testing.

Every rocket ignition marks a critical step toward reaching farther into space. WELIGHT is currently continuing to advance breakthroughs in key liquid rocket propulsion technologies, carrying out step-by-step verification across critical areas including ignition, combustion, turbopumps, and system integration. Through this process, WELIGHT is steadily strengthening the propulsion technology foundation of Huaguang-1 and building momentum for access to a broader expanse of space with a more reliable and efficient propulsion system.
